Shefiu Alao Adekunle also known as as Baba Oko is a popular fuji artiste born on March 24th, 1967 in Abeokuta where he is also based. [1] His brand of Fuji is Fuji Candozo and he has fans both in Nigeria and most parts of West Africa.
Shefiu Alao Adekunle, popularly know as Baba Oko or Omo Oko was born into the family of Chief Wahab Adekunle&Alhaja Adejoke Adekunle on March 24th 1967 in Abeokuta, Ogun State. For his primary education, he schooled at African Primary School at Igbore before proceeding to Unity High School, Abeokuta. His music career started at the age of 14 when he started performing at small parties in the Igbore and Ago oba environs. He later got married to Nimotalahi but lost her after a brief illness in 2013 and he is yet to be re-marry since then.[2][3]
As a young boy, Shefiu started the Fuji Bazooka Band in the early 80s which was later re-branded to Fuji Candozo in 1986. The popular Fuji Cardozo is the premier Fuji music band in Ogun state. One of his early albums Ojumo Ire released in 1996 grew into a must-play to profess good luck into the day before stepping out to work and it is being played even in this decade having been seen as an evergreen music.
Since then he has added so many Albums and play regularly at parties and events all over the globe. Currently, he is popularly called Agbara Orin (meaning Power of Music). His Good Day Album sold more than 200,000 copies in the first month of release and he has over 40 Released albums. He is believed to be a top rated amongst Fuji musicians in Nigeria and beyond.
And very significantly, Shefiu Alao's music is widely listened to and appreciated by the Yorubas in French speaking countries like Cotonou, Cote De Voir, Togo, Congo, Cameroon, Gabon, Guinea Bissau and the rest of them because of the rich cultural and language content of his compositions and delivery. Baba Oko's fans were left very worried in 2016 when he was reportedly shot by unknown gun men while performing at an event in Sagamu.[4]
